Heal Your Body and Mind10 Spots for Wellness Travel on Jeju

The JTO recently released a list of ten wellness tourist attractions. These are places where visitors can improve their fitness, health, and wellbeing while traveling.

Relaxing Forest WalksSeogwipo Forest of Healing

The first wellness location is Seogwipo Forest of Healing. This is a park where you can take a relaxing stroll on one of ten forest trails that stretch out over 11km. The forest is filled with cypress and cedar trees, and it contains plenty of shelters and rest areas where you can relax in the shade. The first path is a 1.9km trail through the forest’s entrance. It is a barrier-free road built on a deck, meaning anyone can use it, even people in wheelchairs. This path then joins up with the other nine trails, and you can choose which ones to take. It’s easy to make your walk as long or as short as you want it to be. Each path is between 0.6km and 2.1km long and has a theme that appreciates a part of Jeju’s history and culture. For example, the 1.2km-long Gabettorong Path is named after the Jeju language word for light or easy, and it takes walkers on a path that follows an old fortress that sparks your imagination about past images of Jeju. While the Benjolong Healing Trail is named after the Jeju language word for refreshing, and it takes walkers through cool valley roads and green moss-covered paths.

Forest Unique to JejuHwansang Forest Gotjawal Park

Hwansang Forest Gotjawal Park is situated within a section of Gotjawal Forest—a type of forest that grows on Jeju’s volcanic rock. Here tree roots wind around the rocks they grow on, while vines and moss cover the ground. The forest is often dense, and the rocky ground makes much of it extremely hard to access. Hwangsang Forest Gotjawal Park is a place where you can both explore and learn about this unique Jeju scenery. At the park, visitors take a guided tour of the forest which explains its characteristics, wildlife, and nature. Tours start every hour between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. Make sure to call ahead to reserve a spot, especially if you are traveling in a group. You can also enjoy the trails without taking a guided tour. When you finish walking, try out the footbath café where you can rest your feet while enjoying a relaxing drink.

Hiking Path through Jeju’s NatureCheona Forest Path

The Cheona Forest Path is a 10.9km mountain trail that stretches from Cheona Reservoir to Dol Oreum on the northwest slopes of Hallasan Mountain. The views of Cheona Reservoir are the highlights of this path. This is a vast dry riverbed that only fills up with water after heavy rain. The rest of the time it is a unique natural feature filled with large rocks and surrounded by thick forest. The forest is made up of deciduous trees, so people often hike the trail during fall. At this time of year, the leaves change color and paint the area in shades of red and orange. But it’s a relaxing hike through nature whenever you decide to go. Just be aware that the path sometimes closes after heavy rain.
