Two New Venues Added to the ListTasty Muslim-Friendly Restaurants on Jeju in 2020

There are currently 23 restaurants on Jeju that have been certified as Muslim-friendly. These are venues that serve meals made entirely from halal ingredients. Two of the 23 restaurants were added to the list in November 2020, and one of them achieved Halal certification—the highest level available. This article will introduce these two new venues, as well as three other Muslim-friendly restaurants near Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak.

Middle Eastern SpecialtiesAsalam Restaurant

If you’re in the mood for Middle Eastern food during your travels to Jeju, then head to Asalam Restaurant. Here you’ll discover a varied menu selling specialties like grilled meats, smooth hummus, and falafel that are sure to hit the spot. Also, be sure to check out the tasty Kalayas—a type of dish in which meat is braised with fragrant spices. The chef is from Yemen so the food is about as authentic as it gets, and the venue is a big hit among the island’s Muslim population. Asalam Restaurant is the only one on Jeju that is Halal-certified, not just Muslim-friendly. It even has an on-site prayer room for customers. The restaurant is situated in an easy-to-access downtown location close to several large hotels, making it a good option for tourists in the area. It’s also a short walk from both Chilseong-ro Shopping Street and Dongmun Traditional Market. The restaurant is quite large and with 60 seats is suitable for tour groups. You can book a table by contacting the venue via the phone number below.

Cozy Backstreet VenueWardah Restaurant

Wardah Restaurant is a cozy Middle Eastern restaurant tucked away on a backstreet in the old part of Jeju. The menu is packed with delicious treats such as falafel, hummus, and a shawarma chicken kebab. There are also Yemenese specialties like Fahsa and Agdah in chicken, tuna or lamb. If you can’t choose which of these meals to buy, grab a selection, and share them among your table. The restaurant has homely decorations and a welcoming atmosphere, but it is quite small so more suitable for couples or small groups than big tours. In total, there are enough seats for 20 people. The restaurant is situated close to Chilseong-ro Shopping Street and Dongmun Traditional Market so it is easy to access by public transport or if you’re staying in the area.

Korean Seafood SpecialtiesSeongsan Haechon

Seongsan Haechon has a varied selection of Korean seafood dishes. A popular choice among locals is the raw fish set menu. If you order one of these you’ll get a plate of thinly sliced fish served alongside plentiful side dishes. Wrap a slice in a lettuce leaf and add some garlic and ssamjang sauce to experience an authentic Korean way to eat raw fish. The restaurant also serves several cooked dishes, including mackerel or cutlassfish stew and haemultang—a type of spicy soup piled high with various types of shellfish. The above dishes are all meant to be shared, but there are also several one-person meals. These include abalone rice porridge, seafood soups, and hoedeopbap—a rice dish with raw fish and vegetables. The restaurant is located on a coastal road just a few hundred meters from Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak, making it a great option if you’re visiting the area. It’s also a good option for groups due its 200 seats and car park.
