A Walk in a Jeju Village: Fall in Hangyeong-myeon! (Part 1)
High, blue skies, warm sunshine, cool breeze. It’s fall, the right season for a trip. Any time you come here, you will find different charms of Jeju. Particularly in fall, you can find comfort in your heart through just a simple walk. Following the summer stroll to east Sehwa-ri, we’ll take an autumn stroll to the west to Hangyeong-myeon. In , we introduce you to the autumn forest and oreum (volcanic cones), and a teahouse where you can smell the aroma of tea. Since it is too early to walk around freely as before, how about settling yourself down in one location and feel the beauty of the season? Let’s head off to Hangyeong-myeon to feel the autumn breeze.
The Lungs of Jeju
For much of the year, the most popular hiking spots on Jeju are the Olle Trails that line the island’s coast, and the paths that lead to the 1,950-meter-high summit of Hallasan Mountain. However, in the summer—when the heat becomes too much—the island’s hikers take to the shade of Gotjawal forests. This shade makes a big difference to the temperature of the area. Research by the National Institute of Forest Science found that in summer, the Physiological Equivalent Temperature of Gotjawal can be 12 degrees lower than that of residential or commercial areas. What all this means is that if you’re looking for a place to stay cool on a hot summer day while still enjoying the outdoors, then visiting Jeju’s Gotjawal is a must.
When it comes to water, we’ve got wild, wet wonders
It goes without saying the Jeju Island is blessed with a clear ocean and cool, clean spring water. It’s a great place to enjoy the natural marine and coastal scenery. The sea is emerald green, and in mid-summer the natural freshwater springs hover around a cool 17 degrees. Where ever you choose to swim on Jeju Island, you’re assured a memorable and beautiful experience in nature… Here are 10 ideas to get you started!
