성불오름2019

The horseshoe-shaped crater that opens thinly to the east is encircled by the back of the ridge, which goes from the southern peak to the northern peak, and between these valleys is a round dilated region covered in trees.

Inside that region is a spring called ‘Seongburcheon Stream’ that looks like a jade gate from afar. Fresh lava outcrops are exposed on the southern peak of the volcanic cone, and underneath them is a cave large enough for a single person to enter. Cedar and Arbor vitae grow densely on the slopes all the way down to the foot of the cone, while the top of the mountain is covered in a grassland of pine trees and Smilax China.

One theory holds that the volcanic cone gets its name from a hermitage known as Seongbulam Hermitage, which used to exist on it, while another theory holds that it derives its name from the fact that the boulders studded on the summit of the eastern slope make it seem like a monk is praying.
